...or a Spruce Coulee single track in the Cypress Hills with rocks and roots and uphill and downhill and uphill and so on until it's time for a snack. We started mountain-biking again this fall and as we had sold our old rides, we had to go shopping. We got in line at 5:45 a.m. one September Saturday morning so I could be the first to put my hand on a door crasher special, a lime green Rocky Mountain Element 30 - the perfect frame for me - and claim it. We watched the sun rise, had coffee, read the paper, took turns shopping at Walmart and Canadian Tire, chatted with some road bikers and were the first and only people in line until the rest of the shoppers arrived in time for the store opening at 10 a.m.
Nice ride...after a 3-year hiatus, I can ride better than ever. What a difference the new technology and a cushy ride makes. No aches, no pains, no saddle sores and I didn't fall once. If there is a bike made for a middle-aged mountain biker like me it's this one. Her name is Margarita and tomorrow we're off to Baja to test the sand, cactus and granite together.
