This week has been very busy starting with the arrival of J&J our Cape Cod friends on Wednesday and then we all sailed late into the afternoon. On Thursday, we saw a small killer whale family feeding near the docks for about half an hour. Our intrepid Cape Cod waterman took an SUP and floated alongside them. Good thing there were lots of fish in the bay!
Later we had a specatcular aerobatic display by two frigate birds fighting over a freshly caught fish. We checked out the filming of a segment for the Travel Channel Sand Masters, attended Happy Hour at the Palmas de Cortez, then set out an array of delctible comestibles and a new croquet course on the course. Somehow, as R&B, J, H&D and M played into the twilight and assisted by a mini flashlight, I won.
The 4 day The Lord of the Wind Showdown kicked off with a dinner and show by wonderful Mexican folkloric dancers accompanied by a show band. Dignitaries included the mayor of Los Barriles and the Governor of BCS. This incredible performance was positive reflection of the beauty of Mexico in contrast to the challenges Mexico is facing.
The video clips show the dancers warming up before the show.
On Friday, our safety was enhanced as the Mexican Navy provided security in the bay during the first day's events. Or were they just here for the famous Vela beach party complete with pig roast, bikini contest and that great band from San Jose del Cabo? We skipped the party last night as there is another tonight and Sunday. H&D joined us at our favorite taqueria, La Palma for bean burritos. Then it was home for a bit if tea, chocolate and an episode of Mapp & Lucia We old folks need to pace ourselves. We were at Vela to lead morning stretch by 9 a.m. sharp and although it was pretty quiet after last evenings festivities, our good friend J joined us.
