Feliz Navidad

Santa found us in Los Barriles. He arrived at noon on formula race gear, jumped off his ride and onto the beach to greet a crowd of kids big and small. He had treats for everyone and a favorite was the chilli-pepper sprinkled candy suckers. Santa then threw down a few free style moves and was on his merry way. Later the kids at the hotel enjoyed cracking a pinata before supper and tonight's bonfire. There are firecrackers going off at all hours through the town. After work, Vida and I went for a Christmas run on the beach with her new best friend Lanca, a border collie who is also terrified of fireworks. Vida is much more relaxed at the beach and happily trots alongside me when I remind her I have her reward in my pocket. Tonight, she spied something to investigate in the surf and actually got her toes wet! She shared her treat with Lanca and then went back to the trailer to seek shelter from the firecrackers.

We vegetarians skipped the turkey feast at the Hotel Playa del Sol and enjoyed home-made Tofurkey  croque monsieur style sandwiches with Gouda cheese, Dijon mustard, onion and cranberry sauce with broccoli and radishes for supper. With a toast of Drambuie, we will have an quiet night as our Christmas Eve sleep was interrupted with fireworks, and parties in the neighbourhoods next to the campground. Christmas  is pretty laid back in Baja California Sur. Michael got in a game of croquet before dinner. Families come and stay for a week or two of sailing and sun, and a margarita or two. This week's request is for strawberry margies and the barman almost rolls his eyes with each new request. It seems that the strawberries were for the kids and now with even the men folk requesting one, the barman finally indicated that these drinks were for the ladies as the strawberries ran low. There are small celebrations with twinkling lights and soft music throughout the campground, while others in their beachy best headed off  to the big hotel for dinner.

May you have a Merry Christmas, too.
