lord of the wind showdown: Jan. 12-16

This picture was taken on day 1 of the LoTW competition. By the final day of competition, this sailor, Kevin Pritchard, had taken the main prize and title in a thrilling winner take all race between kiters and windsurfers. The second place kiter was so far behind he thought he was first. News of the victory sped through the town grapevine like wildfire, making windsurfers extremely proud. Neil Howe, a Vela instructor, was undefeated in the amateur racing class. He will be treating Vela staff & volunteers to a victory celebration next week. See Jan. 16th Vela Baja wind report:

This was a great event for the town and the wind was amazingly cooperative during the event.

There were large parties each night. Vela hosted a great event one night with round one of the bikini contest, followed by a pig roast dinner on the beach, then a bonfire and great reggae band from San Jose del Cabo. At least 300 people of all ages enjoyed the music, dancing and bonfire and the evening was a huge success. We vegetarians skipped the roast and had Italian-style pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven at Otra Vez.
