mining for pizza

road to the cafe

On the rare days that the wind has not been good for windsurfing, we have done a little touring. On Valentine's Day we drove about an hour to El Triunfo which lies in mining county in the mountians between Los Barilles and La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur. It was a beautiful sunny drive through the mountains and arroyos. There is renewal of many of the historic buildings here lately and the Cafe El Triunfo is gathering a significant following due to their great ambience, food, coffee and baked goods.

We had wood-fire pizza and salad on a patio overlooking the unsecured mine site and then went exploring the mine site.

best pizza ever!

There were turkey vultures circling this giant, ornate mine stack - most likely because the top is carcked and crumbling and might have fallen on us at any moment.

back to the cafe for provisions...

...sourdough bread with rosemary, gorgonzole & garlic, plus a giant cinnamon bun.
and back on to the street for the drive home. Life is good and it's a good thing for the waist line that
this place is an hour away!
